Preach

“I wont stop/so you can keep, your accolades and props of ya momentary status/ Content with my Stratus/content with my cabbage/content with my cheddar/vendettas He helps me manage” That’s the intro line from Preach’s upcoming debut album, “Kingdom Minded”. The focus of this album is to encourage the listener to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness in all situations, whether good or bad. Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

You may have heard him on Chrys Jones’ album Transformed with tracks like, “Do It All For The Lord” or “He Brought Me Thru”. You may even have copped his first mixtape in 2006 titled, “My Mission”. Whether you’ve been following this artist from the jump-off or you are just now being introduced to him, you will be encouraged by the music this brother has to offer as he shares his heart with you.

“Since the age of seven, I had pretty much been in the church. I would go every Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday and whatever special event we had in between that. I hated it. At that time I didn't really want anything to do with God. I just wanted to be a kid and have fun with my friends. God had a different plan for me in my life. At the age of ten I found a hunger for God. I wanted to get closer to Him. I gave my life to Christ, November 7, 1998 when I was filled the the Holy Spirit. However, the fire I had for God had quickly died out after about a year. I let the opposition of my peers affect my walk with God. I lived in a backslidden state for about five years. I was living two different lives, double minded in all my ways. (James 1:8, James 4:8). Those were probably the most miserable years of my life and it took a tragic event to bring me back. At the age of fifteen I had developed a infection on my brain lining. This infection affected my ability to put together comprehensive sentences. I had the appearance that I had been on some heavy drugs, so you can imagine the effect it had on my family. This was probably the most trying times we had. At the beginning of September 2003 I slipped into a comatose and survived six seizures. I didn't come out of that until three days later and I was strapped to a hospital bed with a tube in my skull. The doctors didn't know how the infection developed or how I was going to come out of this. I had no other choice, but to run to God.. I went over how I lived my life up until that day and I saw myself living two different lives. I was practicing religion. I had no real relationship with God. I had to get to know Him for myself. I spent time in the bible and just time meditating and worshipping Him for who He is. Near the end of that week, the doctors told me that they were going to have to perform a risky surgery that had to do with them removing a piece of my skull.. At first, I was scared, they were telling me what the possiblities were that I wont come out of it alive, but in the middle of it God gave me a overwhelming feeling of peace. I knew that God is my keeper and He will keep me safe from harm. The surgery was successful after a week I was able to move out of the intensive care unit. I spent a couple more weeks of rehabilitation and I was finally able to leave the hospital. God gave me a full recovery. I still have the scars on my head, but I see them as reminders of the goodness and mercy of my LORD and Savior Jesus Christ.”
